The Friday Random Ten

Let's pull into the weekend with the usual Friday Random Ten.  Fire up those iPods and tell us what's playing.  The first ten tracks.  No skipping, no rationalizing.

The set:

1. Stumbling Through the Dark (Rainy Day Music) -- The Jayhawks
2. Nightswimming (Automatic For the People) -- R.E.M.
3. Someone Else's Dream (Skeleton Jar) -- Youth Group
4. Scorpio (Bulletproof Heart) -- Stephen Kellogg
5. You're the Beautiful One (Success) -- The Posies
6. Splendor in the Grass (The Ladybug Transistor) -- The Ladybug Transistor
7. Cannonball (O) -- Damien Rice
8. Catch My Disease (Awake in the New Asleep) -- Ben Lee
9. Gypsy (Best of) -- Suzanne Vega
10. Celebration Guns (Set Yourself on Fire) -- Stars

General Thoughts: Kind of a folky set this week.  Strangely fitting, as we gear up for Falcon Ridge...

Seen Live: The Jayhawks, R.E.M., Ben Lee, Suzanne Vega, Stars

Majorly Enjoyed: Nightswimming and Gypsy are two of the most beautiful songs ever, IMHO.

Minorly Enjoyed: Someone Else's Dream, Catch My Disease

Favorite Album: Automatic For the People's a classic.  To pick a Best Of would be like cheating.  For a current fav, I'd have to go with Set Yourself on Fire.

Favorite Lyric:

You have hands of raining water and that earring in your ear
The wisdom on your face denies the number of your years
With the fingers of the potter and the laughing tale of the fool
The arranger of disorder, with your strange and simple rules.

and

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
I'm not sure all these people understand
It's not like years ago,
The fear of getting caught,
Of recklessness and water
They cannot see me naked
These things, they go away,
Replaced by everyday...

A -- How anyone could not love "Nightswimming" is beyond me...

B -- Why'd you have to get rid of Damien?

I just found it heartbreaking for some reason. Whenever I listened to it I got really sad. It was just so raw...Wow, I'm even sad thinking about it. It's beautiful music, though.

A -- I heard To Sir With Love yesterday on XPN and blasted it. And I thought of you. :) I tried to get them to play it on XPN each year on our anniversary, so Eli could hear it on the way to work, but they never did -- harumph.
