Random Friday: The 4th of July Edition

You know what time it is.  And you know the rules.  Set the 'pod a-shufflin' and tell us what's playing as we head into the long weekend.

My set:

1. New American Language (New American Language) -- Dan Bern
2. Sense of Purpose (Isle of View) -- The Pretenders
3. Pretty Deep (Lovesongs for Underdogs) -- Tanya Donelly
4. Thank U (Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie) -- Alanis Morrissette
5. She's a Rebel (American Idiot) -- Green Day
6. Laughing (Winterpills) -- Winterpills
7. I Kicked a Boy (Reading, Writing and Arithmetic) -- The Sundays
8. Music is My Boyfriend (Mississauga Goddamn) -- The Hidden Cameras
9. Troubled Times (Utopia Parkway) -- Fountains of Wayne
10. Bells and Bombs (We Will Become Like Birds) -- Erin McKeown

Random Comment: What the hell ever happened to Harriet Wheeler and Co. (otherwise known as The Sundays)?!

General Thoughts: There's nothing really terrible here.  Some of these songs are great; others are merely okay.  Not a bad set, all in all.

Seen Live: Dan Bern, Belly (Tanya Donelly), Alanis Morrissette, Erin McKeown

Majorly Enjoyed: New American Language, Sense of Purpose, I Kicked a Boy, Troubled Times

Minorly Enjoyed: Pretty Deep, Bells and Bombs

Favorite Album: It's a toss-up between New American Language and the classic Sundays record Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.

Least Favorite Album: Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie will just never hold a candle to Jagged Little Pill...

Happy Friday, Kids.  Enjoy the Holiday.  I'll think of you while I'm lounging on the beach...

You know what day it is! Time to put your digital music player on shuffle (Winamp at work this week), click play, and list the first ten songs that show up. You must resist the temptation to click past the bad or embarrassing songs.“Carry Me Ho...

re the sundays...i think their last album wasn't very good, and they faded out of sight. i do like reading writing & arithmetic though. my favorite track is here's where the story ends.

I saw your comment about my Sundays :)

RW&A is one of my all time faves (although I like the other 2 and wish they's produce more)

Happy beachtime!

I know that when the Sundays toured in support of Static and Silence it was right after Wheeler had become a mother, and you could tell she was very, very tired. Maybe she chose that over music?

Your ipod list is always inspiring -- such variety! I tried to do one on the way to the aquarium today ... I was puzzled as to why it kept picking Coldplay albums (I thought maybe it was rubbing in the fact that I lost our new X and Y album) and then Eli told me that the last time he used the ipod he was shuffling Coldplay songs. I'm off to buy a replacement for X and Y ... sigh.
