The Friday Random Ten. Again.

It's the end of the week and therefore time to fire up those iPods.  Tell us what's playing: the first ten songs.  No skipping or rationalizing.

Here's a go...

1. Shattered (40 Licks) -- The Rolling Stones
2. How to Save a Life (How  to Save a Life) -- The Fray
3. Standing in the Rain (The Living End) -- Husker Du
4. Eden (Our Time in Eden) -- 10,000 Maniacs
5. She Bangs the Drum (The Complete Stone Roses) -- The Stone Roses
6. Sparky's Dream (Grand Prix) -- Teenage Fanclub
7. Cemetary Gates (The Queen in Dead) -- The Smiths
8. Polaroids from Mars (Disenchanted Hearts Unite) -- Tullycraft
9. Demons (Goldfly) -- Guster
10. It's the Nighttime (Nashville) -- Josh Rouse

General Thoughts: Not a bad song here.  Amazing!

Seen live: 10,000 Maniacs, Bob Mould (of Husker Du), Guster, Josh Rouse

Since it's nearly impossible to choose favorites and least favorites this week, I'll offer up some brief commentary for each of these tunes...

1. Shattered -- Super catchy, danceable.  How can you not dig it?
2. How to Save a Life -- I've totally fallen for the Fray.  Melodic a la Keane.
3. Standing in the Rain -- DD's really the Husker Du fan but I do find the energy infectious.  I don't know that anyone plays guitar with more fervor than Bob Mould...
4. Eden -- My favorite song off of one of my all-time favorite albums.  Natalie awes me.
5. She Bangs the Drum -- I have a total softspot for the britpop.  But you knew that.
6. Sparky's Dream -- Catchy as hell, and I love the line "She painted pictures that never dried..."
7. Cemetary Gates -- My favorite off of The Queen is Dead.  This is a happy song for Moz.
8. Polaroids From Mars -- Again, catchy, catchy.  Are you noticing a pattern?  I like the hooks.
9. Demons -- I've loved Guster's melodies for over a decade now.  (But I'm kind of worried about the forthcoming record.  I haven't liked what I've heard.)
10. It's the Nighttime -- I got hooked on this song when XPN was playing it ad nauseum for a while.  Josh's newest isn't doin' it for me like Nashville did...

Need more shuffle if your Friday?  Head on over to Apartment 2024 where Marisa always plays and compiles a Master Link List...

Ah, The Queen Is Dead. Easily one of my favorite albums of all time.

We're in agreement about Bob Mould. Seeing him live made me realize just how intense he is, even when he's alone.

Demons is one of my all time favorites. The last album and this upcoming album don't thrill me, but the boys of Tufts will own my heart forever thanks to songs like Window, Demons and Scars&Stitches.

Actually, when this guy from HS signed my yearbook he wrote "I will always think of you when I hear Natalie Merchant." I bet he does, too. ;)
